The Data Center Land Footprint

Even after roughly tripling the current U.S. data-center powered-land footprint through 2030, the entire industry would occupy about the same land area as Denver International Airport: roughly 34,000 acres carved out of eastern Colorado farm and rangeland beginning in 1989.

And we barely think about it. We fly through it, connect through it, and accept the scale of the infrastructure because we understand what it enables.

But consolidate the projected land footprint of an entire national digital-infrastructure industry into roughly that same area, and suddenly the scale is treated as extraordinary.

It isn’t the scale that changed. It’s our perception of the infrastructure.
